3. Pharmacological MechanismBenzylpenicillin Sodium exerts bactericidal activity by blocking the synthesis of bacterial cell wall. It inhibits the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan, the main structural component of bacterial cell wall, resulting in incomplete cell wall formation, osmotic rupture and death of sensitive bacteria.It shows strong antibacterial activity against Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Pneumococcus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Clostridium tetani and other gram-positive pathogenic bacteria.
